Bouygues nigeria limited
Bouygues Nigeria Limited is a subsidiary of Bouygues SA, one of Europe’s largest construction groups.
The company has operated in Nigeria for decades, specialising in large-scale non-residential building construction, infrastructure, and engineering projects. Notable references include the Abuja Court of Justice, the LNG Head Office, and the Jabi Lake Shopping Mall.
The challenge
These specific issues indicate your company needs an immediate intervention:
The Plant Department is a strategic asset, traditionally managed as a cost centre. Located in a remote suburb of Lagos and employing around 100 people, the department suffered from unreliable stock variance and monthly reporting caused by obsolete software and under-skilled staff.
Inventory movements created significant uncertainty and financial leakage. In line with Bouygues Nigeria’s policy of reinforcing local talent in management roles, the historically expatriate Head of Finance position needed to be transitioned to a qualified Nigerian professional.
All objectives had to be achieved within a tight 9-month deadline. I had to completely restructure the department by training reliable local talent and appointing new leadership. I had to implemented the French corporate cost accounting system and designed robust reporting tools to strictly govern inventory and enforce variance control.
Solution
Prepared a comprehensive roadmap and detailed action plan in close collaboration with the local CFO.
Completed a 3-week training mission in France to master the in-house software and integrate international best practices
Conducted a thorough financial
and administrative diagnostic covering:
- HR analysis (job descriptions and skills assessment)
- Redesign of workflows and processes
- Development of a relevant cost analysis structure
- In-depth inventory and stock variance analysis
Results

Restructured department
A fully Nigerian team was built from local talent, with a new Nigerian Head of Plant Finance appointed internally. The restructured department quickly became a flagship example of successful localisation for Bouygues Nigeria Limited, earning positive recognition from local administration and authorities.
